Pagan Life Rites Clergy Bio for Lora O’Brien, Waterford
Lora O’Brien has been consciously following a spiritual path exploring our native Irish traditions for 30 years, dedicated specifically to the Irish Goddess Mórrígan in 2004, and is the author of seven books on Irish history, mythology, folklore, witchcraft, Pagan practice and priesthood. Her eighth book, focusing on the Mórrígan, will be published by Llewellyn (2025).
She professionally developed and managed one of Ireland’s most important sacred sites — Cruachán/Rathcroghan — for a decade, preserving and promoting its rich mythological and historical significance.
Lora O’Brien is also a co-founder and legal celebrant with Pagan Life Rites Ireland, where she serves as a registered solemniser, legally officiating weddings and other significant rites of passage. Her celebrant role emphasises honouring native Irish heritage, integrating traditional life rites into modern practice while fostering community connections through culturally rooted ceremonies.
Lora’s work in this capacity often draws on ancient Irish customs and lore, ensuring that contemporary rites – such as weddings, namings, and funerals – reflect the deep spiritual and cultural resonance of Ireland’s indigenous traditions.
With her partner, Jon O’Sullivan, Lora co-founded the Irish Pagan School, where they provide an extensive range of community service content through the Irish Pagan School Blog, YouTube Channel, and Podcast.
She established the Ogham Academy in 2022 and the Morrigan Academy in 2023, further expanding access to in-depth teachings on Ogham and Irish spirituality.
Lora holds a Masters Degree in Irish Regional History (2023), specialising in Ogham and Irish identity, reflecting her deep scholarly commitment to the preservation of Ireland’s cultural heritage.
A mother of three grown children, Lora lives in County Waterford with two of the children and three cats, and enjoys occasional chaotic visits from her third child and two grandchildren.
